Do you know the usefulness of the label on the imported fruits?

Labels on imported fruit has a set of codes, called "price lookup code" (Price look-up codes), referred to PLU code. Originally used to allow the tracking of supermarkets and query product information, such as: product types, size and price.

Since 2001, the International Agricultural Standards Alliance (International Federation for Produce Standards, referred IFPS) put this technology to the world. Basically conventional PUL code is four digits.This four-digit number has a "prefix" ("9" or "8") to represent the fruit cultivation way. "9" stands for organic production, "8" represents a genetically engineered, and "0" indicates that other than these two production method, which is the traditionalproduction away. Among prefix "0" can be omitted.
